Is Disney promoting Dominate/Subservient relationships for people of color ?

ABC/Disney Does Not Promote Interracial Relationships, But Dominate/Subservient Relationships

For several decades, ABC/Disney has knowingly promoted a racist propaganda on their media channels and continue to do so with a sense of impunity. Over and over, ABC/Disney have been promoting the media image of a White male in a relationship with a woman of color and this is a racist media practice known as “grooming”. In this article we are going to explain the practice of grooming, how ABC/Disney practice it and our initiative to bring what ABC/Disney is doing to light and how to confront ABC/Disney on this racist media practice.
What Is Grooming?
Let’s have a quick discussion about interracial relationships and ABC/Disney portrayal of interracial relationships. First of all, interracial relationships are extremely minute and insignificant and overhyped – the overwhelming majority of people are dating and marrying among their ethnic lines. However, the majority of interracial relationships that do occur are based on mutual love and rising above each other physical attributes, a beautiful thing that no one can argue.
ABC/Disney do not and have not and appears to have any plans to show any portrayal of interracial relationships based on love. Because if ABC/Disney was truly being honest and wanted to show the true picture of interracial relationships, it would be between a Black man and a White/Jewish woman. This is your biggest giveaway to date as ABC/Disney has never showed this realistic portrayal of interracial relationships that match reality.
However, what ABC/Disney has displayed over the years is a racist portrayal of a White male having dominate interracial relationship with a subservient woman of color. This has been done on Disney cartoons such as the Princess and the Frog to various Disney Channel TV series to ABC primetime programming. The problem and the reason why ABC/Disney was able to get away with this extreme racism with a sense of impunity is because no one really defined or understand what ABC/Disney was doing. What ABC/Disney was doing was a racist practice called “grooming” and let’s explain further.
Grooming is the racist media programming of one ethnic group trying to assert their dominance over another ethnic group (usually a minority) by targeting their women. Another term many people are familiar with is droit du seigneur. Germany has done this with Jewish women prior to World War II and this practices been done since the beginning of civilization in both Egypt and Roman times. You don’t just take another ethnicity of minority women when oppressing them, what you do is present yourself as the superior man to the ethnic minority women so they can choose you based on materialism/false sense of power over their own man from their own tribe.
What is the Agenda behind Grooming?
The overall goal of grooming is to perform passive genocide through propaganda with the sinister goal of breeding out the minority race within a few generations. In fact, this was part of the Native American assimilation process by Americans during the early 1900s and late 1800s by Whites marrying Native American women and devalue the Native American male – this is real and documented. So we know and it is established that this grooming is a real practice rooted in genocide propaganda and is a racist act. In fact, we are seeing new strands of “assimilation” talk leveraged towards the growing Hispanic and Asian base and creating strategies to see how to apply White male dominance to Hispanic, Indian and Asian women in media programming.
I will be honest, I do not know what ABC/Disney agenda is and what the hell are they thinking because it stupid and ineffective. The best theory I heard is ABC/Disney want to show and reinforce a racist narrative of dominance by White men over women of color here in America. Noticed the goal is not to show Martin Luther King, Jr vision of Black boys and White girls holding hands saying free at last – the goal of ABC/Disney is to show a racist image of a White male having his way with a woman of color who is part of a minority race in his country.
How to Detect Grooming by ABC/Disney
It is extremely easy to detect the racist grooming pattern by ABC/Disney and in fact, it is so predictable also. Let’s explain how you can reveal ABC/Disney grooming practices.
Suppressing Portrayal of Men of Color Having Relations with White Women. This is the biggest giveaway because the racist doctrine of the White woman on a pedestal who cannot be touched by others is evident in the programming. A huge percentage of real-world interracial relationships are between Black men or other men of color with White women or other cultures. ABC/Disney has no history of showing a Black male having a dominate lead in an interracial relationship with a White woman and this is proof they preserving a racist doctrine instead of accepting reality.
Promoting Portrayal of Women of Color Having Subservient Relations with White Men. In order for a successful interracial relationship to succeed among American women, the relationship has to be mutual and usually involves dual income households. To put it real simple, most women of color in an interracial relationship are working class and independent women and are not subservient and cannot be subservient to survive in their career in the real world. However, ABC/Disney portray these Black women or other women of color as needing or desiring or curious about White men and answers to these White men in some shape or form.
ABC/Disney suppresses images of men of color dating White women but promote images of women of color having relations with White men and this is proof enough ABC/Disney is engaged in grooming, a racist propaganda practice to passively encourage genocide.
What to Do About ABC/Disney Grooming Practice?
Many people believe if they target ABC/Disney then they won’t be able to go to Disneyland anymore. However, what ABC/Disney is engaged in should not be tolerated and there should an outrage against what ABC/Disney doing to the level of ABC/Disney executives losing their jobs, advertisers pulling their ads and shows being cancelled or rewritten. Again, we have to stress that ABC/Disney is not engaged in portraying interracial relationships but portraying White male dominant fantasy over women of color.
We brothas and sistas have to work together and work in force to deal with ABC/Disney. The first thing we can do is write ABC/Disney directly and tell them that we believe they are practicing grooming and advise them this is a racist practice that should be stopped immediately. In addition, we CC a copy of the letter to social responsibility advocates and put them on notice so we can claim they ignored us when we informed them.
The second thing we do is lodge a complaint with the FCC regarding all of ABC/Disney affiliates who broadcast this racist grooming propaganda. Any local broadcaster that continue to broadcast for example the Atlanta and Chicago ABC stations knowing a significant population is African-American need to be addressed with the FCC.
Then we move on the advertisers of ABC/Disney who advertise on these shows that promote grooming which is essentially racism. We have to educate everybody involved in what the practice ABC/Disney doing it and we also have to iterate over and over the same point – ABC/Disney does not promote interracial relationships but promote White male dominance over women of color and make sure everybody knows the difference.
But what is really important is brothas and sistas need to come out in force and I’m taking both with the pen and the sword, don’t play with these people because like I said, this is not interracial relationships, this is propaganda to promote long term genocide. In fact, ABC/Disney portrayal is a false depiction of interracial relationships and promotes White superiority, not colorblind love. For too long, ABC/Disney has engaged in this activity and it’s time for brothas and sistas to step up and not just call ABC/Disney out but deal with them – no one should be plotting genocide against us no matter how passive it is and we just sitting here allowing that ish to happen.

How True is the Butler - Aisha Harris

How True Is The Butler?

The Butler

A few days after Barack Obama was elected president in 2008, the Washington Post published an article about a black butler who served in the White House for 34 years, under eight presidents, from Truman to Reagan. Eugene Allen represented, as journalist Wil Haygood wrote, “a story from the back pages of history. A figure in the tiniest of print. The man in the kitchen.”

“He was there,” Haygood continued, “while America’s racial history was being remade: Brown v. Board of Education, the Little Rock school crisis, the 1963 March on Washington, the cities burning, the civil rights bills, the assassinations.” Allen undoubtedly lived a fascinating life, meeting countless historical figures during especially polarizing times, and it’s unsurprising that Haygood’s profile caught the eye of Hollywood. It is now the basis for Lee Daniels’ The Butler (the director’s name is included thanks to silly copyright claims made by Warner Bros).

But as interesting as Haygood’s profile is, “A Butler Well Served by This Election” doesn’t provide that many details about Allen’s time in the White House outside a handful of facts and humorous anecdotes. (Allen’s wife Helene referred affectionately to former First Lady Rosalynn Carter as “country,” for instance.) The Butler is a bit more than 2 hours long, spans several decades, and includes multiple storylines. It’s fair to say it has epic ambitions.

So how much of Allen’s real-life experience actually made it into the film?

Not much. According to Daniels’ foreword in The Butler: A Witness to History, a book by Haygood published to accompany the film, the movie “is set against historical events,” but “the title character and his family are fictionalized.” The skeleton of Allen’s story is there: the childhood on a plantation in the early 1920s, the interactions with several presidents. But the names have been changed: Allen and his wife, Helene, are called Cecil and Gloria Gaines. (They’re played by Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey.) At least one key character, Cecil’s son Louis (David Oyelowo), is entirely made up.
The following breakdown is based on Haygood’s profile and the accompanying book. (I have emailed Haygood and will update the post if he provides additional information.)
Spoilers follow.

The butler’s backstory

The film opens with young Cecil in Macon, Georgia, in the 1920s, working in a cotton field alongside his father. His mother (Mariah Carey) is raped by a white plantation overseer, Thomas Westfall (Alex Pettyfer), loud enough for everyone to hear. When Westfall returns, Cecil’s father shows his anger, and Westfall shoots him dead in front of Cecil and the other plantation workers. The plantation matriarch (Vanessa Redgrave) then decides that Cecil should leave the fields to become a “house nigger” and learn to serve her family.

Those appear to be the inventions of screenplay writer Danny Strong; they are never mentioned in Haygood’s piece.* Eugene Allen was born in 1919, and, like Cecil, he grew up on a plantation (in Virginia, not Georgia). He, too, became a “house boy” for a white family. When he spoke to Haygood about his childhood, “There was nary a hint of bitterness in his voice about his upbringing.” Allen left the plantation in hopes of finding better work, as Cecil does—but unlike his fictional counterpart, he never broke into a hotel restaurant to steal food. (He did, however, land a job at a Virginia hotel as a waiter, as Cecil ultimately does in North Carolina.)

How the butler got his job at the White HouseAllen learned of a job at a country club in Washington, D.C., a fact that aligns with Cecil’s move to the nation’s capital. But their entries to the White House differ considerably: Allen learned via word of mouth that Alonzo Fields, a black maître d’ at the White House, was looking for pantry workers, and he went to talk to him. He began working there in 1952, during the Truman administration, but didn’t get promoted to butler until several years later. In the movie, the White House calls Gaines after a white senior staffer witnesses Cecil in action at the D.C. hotel—a point Cecil, in voiceover, emphasizes proudly.

Cecil is hired as butler just as soon as black maître d’ Freddie Fallows (Colman Domingo) confirms that he is not actively political and is experienced in his field. He begins working in the White House under Eisenhower’s administration, in 1957.

Other moments from the film appear to be true: Allen witnessed presidents mulling over important historical decisions, including Eisenhower’s fight with Arkansas governor Orval Faubus regarding the desegregation of Little Rock. And his wife Helene did pass away just prior to Obama’s election (though it was the Sunday night prior, not the morning of, as the film implies).

The butler’s familyAllen had one son, Charles, who served in Vietnam, just as Cecil’s younger son (also named Charles) does. Allen’s son survived the war, while his fictional counterpart does not. The real-life Charles is still alive, and has seen and approved of the new movie, according to Haygood.

The invented older son, Louis, serves as the main source of conflict in the narrative of Cecil’s life, in an attempt to highlight the clash between the older and younger black generation. Louis, who’s ashamed that his father is content with serving white people, is himself present for several important historical moments, including the attack and burning of a Freedom Riders bus in 1961; he’s also imprisoned in the same jail as Martin Luther King, Jr. after a protest.

Gloria Gaines, the butler’s wife, has an affair with a neighbor (Terrence Howard) and struggles with alcoholism. These storlines appear to be fictional.

The butler and the Reagans
Judging from Haygood’s interview, it seems that Allen, like Cecil, was grateful to have his job at the White House, and wary of involving himself in the politics of the time—even in his old age, he is not quoted saying anything disparaging about the presidents he worked under. In the movie, Cecil asks for equal pay among the black and white service staff, who each perform the same level of duties. His request is denied, and he accepts this. Years later, he again asks for a raise, and when he is turned down a second time, he tells his supervisor that he spoke to President Reagan personally, and that Reagan insists on the raise himself. Allen did receive a promotion to maître d’ in 1980, but there’s no indication that he ever asked for a raise.*

Cecil’s character arc is complete when Nancy Reagan invites him to the state dinner as a guest—the first black butler to receive such an invitation in the history of the White House. This did, in fact, happen to Allen, but the cinematic version unfolds quite differently. Here’s how it’s described in Haygood’s profile:
“Had champagne that night,” the butler’s wife would remember all these years later. As she said it, Eugene, rocking in his chair, just grinned: for so many years he had stocked champagne in the White House.

In the film, on the other hand, Cecil’s discomfort at sitting among the white elite is made clear through voiceover, as he describes feeling like an outsider and a traitor to his black colleagues who are now serving him. He can now see first-hand how each server “performs” for guests, and recognizes that he’s been unknowingly wearing the same mask for years. This moment, along with Cecil overhearing Reagan’s promise to veto the sanctions against apartheid-ridden South Africa, prompts the butler to hand in his resignation. Haygood’s article only mentions that Eugene “left the White House in 1986” and received a “sweet note” from the president and a “tight” hug from First Lady Nancy.

The butler and Obama
The film ends with Cecil returning to the White House to meet President Obama. I can't tell if Allen ever actually met the president, but he did get a VIP invitation to the inauguration in 2009, and was in attendance on that historical day. When he passed away in 2010, the president sent a letter to his family acknowledging his years in service and “abiding patriotism.”

Correction, Aug. 15, 2013: This post originally misstated that Lee Daniels co-wrote the script with Danny Strong. While Daniels had some input as to the script, Strong is credited as the sole writer. Due to a publication error in The Butler: A Witness to History, this post also originally misstated that Allen received a promotion under the Reagan administration.

Sunday Schooled - This one's for you

11/2/2012.....Here we are four years later. Mum looked at me today and said "I'm strong enough to go to the election polls myself now. I'll be casting my vote this time. You won't have to vote for me. You can vote for Mitt Romney if you want this year. I don't see why you would want to." Earlier this week I was barraged by folks wanting to know what my political plans were. When someone asked me "Are you better off now than you were four years ago ?" I had to admit that I was better. My improved existence isn't due to any political action..........Thankfully..........Time does indeed heal wounds...... Ashee, Amen.

This one's for you

11/4/2008 - Mama's catching it right about now. Pops is having health difficulties, Mama-Granny is having health problems, my cousin has acted in a manner that's disrespectful and will need to keep a distance from me , & now she's in the hospital.

A week ago she shared in a story how surreal it is to be born in the 1940's in the United States and to face against racial and gender discrimination and to quietly yet deeply fear raising two Black boys. She had seen America spit out and chew Black boys even in the best of circumstances. She wasn't allowed to enter certain restaurants, establishments, and walks of life due to her race and gender as she was growing up. She saw men and women scarred by America while saying the Pledge of Allegiance. As she pledged allegiance to a country who violated and abused her fellow Americans of African and Indian descent she placed her faith on the cross of Christ. She stood up for and held onto love towards men who walked away from responsibility and fought the devils in alcohol. drugs, crime, and perversion.

Mom marched with Dr. King, listened to Malcolm, and later lit seven cultural candles after celebrating the birthday celebration of her savior. Mom worked and received lower paychecks and was shut-out of some businesses due to her womanhood. And now she had a chance to vote for a Barak Obama.

This is something that she spoke into me and my brother as we were lil'. "You could even be the President of the United States of America." While she was attempting to bolster her children with a wealth of the hope that embraces the "American dream "she truly didn't believe that it could happen for one of America's African children. My parents kept me in love with our African and Indian roots as much as they immersed us into almost all-white environments. She put up with polite smiles and back-stabbing church and professional peers who spoke of love and equality and practiced distance......And now she had a chance to vote for a Barak Obama.

Mom spoke of feeling like she was dreaming when she graduated from school and "they" made "them" all get into a bus to vote. She fearfully yet fearlessly got in the line expecting the usual police batons, citizen threats, or the whispered about bombs and was able to cast her vote for John F. Kennedy. She couldn't believe that she was able to do what so many had died trying to do. She couldn't believe that she was safe in participating in American society after being an American negro......And now she had a chance to vote for a Barak Obama.

We sat and she marveled while watching videos on the Internet involving people of all backgrounds demonstrate their support of Barack Obama in song, poetry, and speech. She marveled as one video showed bridges across the world with people holding signs endorsing Obama. Here I sat; her privileged Afro-revolutionary-thinking, Black-Republican-acting, Broke yet blessed elitist behaving, Suburban-raised yet hood-loving, Conservative-radio addicted son. She and others bled and suffered for me to be able to believe what I believe. As she marveled I marveled. She has seen America become closer to what America claimed it was. As southern rapper Young Jeezy says to Barack Obama in one his songs "Win, loose, or draw......You have changed the world for us." This is surreal to her.

Yesterday Barak Obama's grandmother died (11/03/2008 Roman Calendar) . Two days ago Mum was placed into the hospital fighting against pneumonia. She won't get a chance to vote and she's worried that her conservative son's vote may be one of the votes that defeats her realized dream in Obama's candidacy.

I awoke at 3:00 AM. I arrived at the polling place at 4:35 AM. The polls opened up at 6:00 AM. I cast my vote at 6:05 AM. My wifey arrived at 5:30 AM and cast her vote at 7:30 AM. I'll pick-up my Daddy around 10:00 AM to take him to the polls. This is surreal for him as well. Looking at the line behind me this morning was surreal. I shed a tear for Mum as I approached the voting booth. This is something she wasn't able to do today after praying, working, and bleeding for the opportunity. Mum, this one's for you.

Trayvon Martin and American Racism - Kevin Powell

Trayvon Martin & the fatal history of American racism

by Kevin Powell
***
I am Trayvon Martin.

So are you. And so is any human being who has ever felt cornered, in a dark and desolate alley, between life and death. Add the grim reality of skin color in America, and you have the disastrous spectacle of 250lb George Zimmerman, 28, pursuing 140lb Trayvon, 17, until that man-child is screaming "Help!" - and then gasping for air after a bullet from Zimmerman's 9mm handgun had punctured his chest. A majority-white, gated community became, on 26 February, the makeshift mortuary for a black boy who will not get a chance to live, to go to college with his exceptional high school grades, to make something of his life. Trayvon's fatal act: a mundane walk to the nearby convenience store to buy a can of iced tea and a bag of Skittles.

This is what racism, the American version of it, means to black boys like Trayvon, to black men like me. That we often don't stand a chance when it has been determined, oftentimes by a single individual acting as judge and jury, that we are criminals to be pursued, confronted, tackled, and, yes, subdued. To be shocked and awed into submission.
The police authorities in Sanford, Florida, where the shooting occurred, are apparently so mired in racial prejudice and denial that George Zimmerman, at this writing, still has not been arrested nearly a month after Trayvon was killed - in spite of Zimmerman being told, on 911 police dispatch audio, not to follow Trayvon Martin.
In spite of Zimmerman being charged in 2005 with resisting arrest with violence and battery on a police officer. In spite of Zimmerman calling the police 46 times since January 2011. In spite of Zimmerman, according to neighbors, being fixated on bracketing young black males with criminality. In spite of Zimmerman being the subject of complaints from neighbors in his gated community due to his aggressive tactics. In spite of the officer in charge of the crime scene also receiving criticism in 2010 when he initially failed to arrest a lieutenant's son who was videotaped attacking a homeless black man. In spite of Zimmerman violating major principles of the Neighborhood Watch manual (the manual states: "It should be emphasized to members that they do not possess police powers. And they shall not carry weapons or pursue vehicles.")
In spite of Zimmerman not being a member of a registered group, which police were not aware of at the time of the incident. And in spite of the Sanford, Florida police failing to test Zimmerman for drugs or alcohol. (A law enforcement expert told ABC that Zimmerman sounds intoxicated on the 911 tapes, and that drug and alcohol testing is "standard procedure in most homicide investigations".)
Finally, what was a man like George Zimmerman doing with a gun in the first place? And will Florida's very controversial "stand your ground" self-defense law prevent Zimmerman from ever being prosecuted, especially as he and his lawyers are claiming he was protecting himself from harm?
Finally, does any of the above truly matter, if the shooter has white skin and the victim's is brown?

We've heard, since President Obama came into office, that we suddenly, miraculously, live in a "post-racial" America, that there now is such a thing as "post-blackness". Try telling that to the families of Trayvon Martin. Or Ramarley Graham. Or Sean Bell. Or Oscar Grant. Or Amadou Diallo. Or Emmett Till. Or the Scottsboro Boys. And numberless others in modern US history.

Racism remains the greatest cancer of American society, and has been since the founding of this nation - by men who owned slaves. You cannot slaughter and push from the land Native Americans, enslave black people, harass and marginalize Asians, Latinos and Jews, and scapegoat immigrant white ethnics and Arabs through your long and tumultuous history, then wonder how the killing of Trayvon Martin could happen in the first place? The former is the context for the latter.

We, most of us, have been socialized to fear and demonize difference, the other. Trayvon's murder is of a piece with hysterical and overzealous anti-immigration policies and new voter ID laws that recall the days of segregation and harsh American racial apartheid. Left unchecked, as George Zimmerman has been left unchecked, and you perpetuate this ugly national tragedy.
American racism is not merely a distortion of human psychology that teaches the George Zimmermans of our nation to see Trayvon Martin as nothing more than a criminal; it is also the debilitating disease that allows us, on the one hand, to denounce the alleged atrocities of Kony in faraway Africa we've seen in that ubiquitous viral video, and on the other, to overlook the Trayvon Martins, just as we ignore the routine stop-and-frisk harassment of legions of black and Latino young males.

We are trapped in the stereotyping that saw my friend's son being told by his teacher in Fairfax County, Virginia recently, as he reciited a Langston Hughes poem, that he needed to read it "blacker". The stereotyping that allows us to cheer loudly for the majority-black college basketball teams during March Madness, yet won't permit us to pay attention to Trayvon Martin's parents, clearly shattered, pleading for some shred of justice.
The Justice Department's intervention is welcome, if belated. But it is American racism that constrains our leaders, like President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder, from speak forcibly and publicly about this destructive cancer for fear of alienating "regular" folks. If the president could call on Sandra Fluke considering the insult she'd received from Rush Limbaugh, we should be able to expect him to offer his condolences to Martin's parents for the grievous injury they have received.
For the sake of Trayvon Martin, and the Trayvon Martins who never had this sort of mass outcry, something must be done. But if we choose to turn our ears and hearts away from his parents and his community, then Trayvon Martin's blood will be on the hands of this entire nation. Will we ignore that call for help, as Trayvon's went unheeded?

Blair Underwood's African Ancestral search

Golden Globe nominated actor, director and producer Blair Underwood first became a household name for his portrayal of charismatic attorney Jonathan Rollins on the celebrated NBC drama, L.A. Law. Throughout his 25 year career, Blair has highlighted important African-American issues through his work with charitable organizations and by the roles he chooses. He is a five-time winner of the coveted NAACP Image Award. Blair lives in Los Angeles with his wife and their three children.

Blair Underwood's search sends him to the American South to learn startling news. Then Blair travels to Cameroon to reconnect with his African ancestors.

Blair Underwood's trip to Africa video:
http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi3228803353/

"Family to me means everything... they've provided a strong foundation," Blair says as he talks about the importance of his ancestral search. Blair's father is a retired army colonel who was in the service for 27 years. "He was an army officer in the 1960s, which was a rarity," Blair proudly says about his father. His grandfather was also a trailblazer by becoming the second African-American police officer in Steubenville, Ohio.

Blair starts his journey at his parent's house in Petersburg, Virginia, where his brother Frank Jr., who has been working on the Underwood family tree for years, tells him about the ancestral "brick wall." When anyone starts looking at their family tree, they will eventually run into a wall where they cannot find any more information on their lineage. African Americans tend to hit that brick wall about 150 years ago because records for slaves were never kept. Blair takes an Ancestry.com DNA test to help his family shatter the wall.

Having just learned his great-great-grandfather Sonny Early was in a mental intuition at the age of 78, Blair looks at previous census records to find out how he might have ended up there. The census from 1880 shows that Sonny Early was a farmer and had not yet been sent to the institution. Stepping back 10 more years to 1870, Blair finds that Sonny worked as a blacksmith. Joseph Shumway attempts to analyze the 1860 census to find more information, but before the Emancipation of Slavery in 1863, slaves were not listed by name in any census, only by number as property of their owner. Thus creating "the wall" Blair's brother warned him about.

To learn more about why Sonny went from a skilled blacksmith to a mental institution at the end of his life, Blair meets with Dr. Dan Fountain. Dr. Fountain searches an old newspaper database from 1876 to see if he was listed in any local papers. They find an article that calls Sonny a "pestiferous darky who claims to be the second Jesus." The article then describes that Sonny was accused of killing a valuable cow and assaulting a man named Mr. Chambers. Dr. Fountain finds another article that describes Sonny as a religious zealot and someone who survived a gunshot to his jaw. Dr. Johnson tells Blair that he now believes Sonny might have been a conjurer for the African-American community. Blair learns that conjurers came out of a West African tradition and served a vital purpose for slave communities. They negotiated the boundaries between spirits and humans and offered their followers protection from a slave master. They often served as leaders of the community, and because of that, the white population viewed conjurors as a threat.

Dr. Johnson takes Blair to the site where Sonny lived, according to the records. Blair learns that the farmer who tried to kill Sonny, Mr. Chambers, lived on the parcel of land next door. We discover that Sonny killed Mr. Chambers' cow because it was eating Sonny's corn, which he used to feed his family. Blair's estimation of his relative changes. "He has a justifiable reason to be indignant," Blair says. Given that he was a leader of the local African-American community, Blair and the researcher wonder if perhaps the pejorative newspaper accounts of Sonny were in fact a smear job orchestrated by the white community that feared him.

Now that Blair knows the dramatic story of Sonny Early, he looks to another branch of his lineage. He starts to delve deeper into Ada Belle White and her father Delaware Scott. Researcher Shumway is able to find an 1860 census revealing a freed slave who owned property, which was very unusual for an African American in Virginia. "That's pretty incredible," Blair says. Now Blair is curious to discover how his ancestor was freed before the official Emancipation of Slavery in 1863. He meets with historian Dr. Eva Sheppard Wolf who shows him a Register of Freed Negroes from 1849. It describes Delaware as being born free in 1823. "How is that possible?" Blair asks. Blair is then able to follow further documents that state the Scott family was free all the way back to the 1790s and were in fact prominent landowners.

Blair heads to the first African-American Baptist church in Virginia, which the Scott family was instrumental in helping build. Through further documents and tax records, Blair learns that his fourth-generation great-grandfather, Samuel Scott, owned two slaves in 1838. Dr. Eva Shepard explains to Blair that "most freed black slave owners in Virginia owned family members." They would buy family members who were not freed in order to care for them and protect them. "It makes sense, you take care of your own," Blair realizes. "What else that's been illuminating is that there is such deep roots in this state of Virginia that I had no idea about," Blair says. "Now it makes sense why I feel like such a Virginian."

Blair's Ancestry.com DNA test arrives, so he meets with Dr. Ken Chahine to review the results. They were able to find out that Blair's DNA is comprised of 74% African DNA and 26% European DNA. When they look at his European DNA they find that he is rooted to people from France, Switzerland and Germany. "That's hilarious because I've always felt a connection to France... got engaged in Paris, named my first child Paris... I never knew why." For the African results, Blair is associated with several tribes in West Africa, and they've specifically found a cousin named Eric Sonjowoh from Cameroon who matches Blair's DNA.

Blair and his father travel to Cameroon, Africa to meet his distant cousin. "What is staggering to me is the fact that my ancestors came from Cameroon," Blair says as he drives with his father through the Cameroon countryside. "To connect family, it's a dream come true." Blair arrives at his cousin's village to a tribal celebration. "Eric, I cannot thank you enough for making this all possible," Blair tells his newly found cousin. Blair tells Eric that this is such a special moment for him and his father because their ancestors were forcibly separated, and all these generations later, they have finally come full circle and have been reunited. "I feel certain voids have been filled that I've never known I had," says Blair. "Who I thought I was when we started this odyssey is different than who I know I am today. It's been incredible."

The Color of Cola - Black History & Pepsi Cola

The Color of Cola

Published: February 4, 2007
History-making heroism, Stephanie Capparell means to demonstrate in this admiring account of the Pepsi-Cola Company’s pioneering — but largely unsung — “special-markets sales staff,” ought not to be measured solely by the fame it attracts. She’s right. Inconceivable without the giants of the ballpark and the ring, demonstrations and courtrooms, the movement for African-American civil rights depended even more on the mostly unknowable actions of millions, black and white, who created new ways of thinking and working and acting within and across racial lines.
Boyd Collection/From “The Real Pepsi Challenge”
The model for the young boy in this store display from the 1940s was Ron Brown, who became President Bill Clinton’s commerce secretary.

THE REAL PEPSI CHALLENGE

The Inspirational Story of Breaking the Color Barrier in American Business.
By Stephanie Capparell.
Illustrated. 349 pp. Wall Street Journal Books/Free Press. $25.

“The Real Pepsi Challenge” begins with a creative, dynamic white New York businessman, a politically connected, progressive Republican turnaround specialist named Walter S. Mack Jr., who took over Pepsi in 1938. Mack, in his own words “an unrepentant capitalist and a liberal” who enjoyed playing, as Capparell puts it, “scrappy David to the Goliath that was Coca-Cola” (Pepsi’s 1939 sales were under $5 million, compared with Coca-Cola’s $128 million), decided to strengthen Pepsi’s hold on the “Negro market.” Pepsi’s 12-ounce bottle, twice the size of a Coke, sold for the same nickel, which made it more popular among poorer people; according to Capparell, Pepsi had “survived the Depression by appealing to Negro consumers.”
Mack more or less invented the business internship in 1940, with a nationwide essay contest for college graduates. Two of the 13 winners were black; they traveled through 21 states and “thousands of miles by car, train and bus, selling Pepsi” and, by implication, Pepsi’s commitment to African-Americans. World War II interrupted the program, though not Walter Mack’s racial activism: Pepsi opened three integrated military canteens that served 29 million servicemen during and after the war, while “the government’s canteens — like the Army itself — were segregated.”
Capparell deftly portrays the optimism of the immediate postwar years, especially regarding what she calls the “dizzying number of firsts for African-Americans” — in business, education, politics, entertainment and, of course, baseball — in the banner year of 1947. That year Mack hired the 33-year-old Edward F. Boyd, a National Urban League staff member working on housing issues, with a promise that Boyd could hire a dozen African-American salesmen. A slump in the soft-drink market kept Boyd to just four hires at first; his staff grew to eight in 1950, and finally reached 12 a year later. The book mostly recounts the story of Boyd’s special-markets team — the employees’ backgrounds, how they sold the cola, the coverage they received in the black press — and Pepsi’s shifting fortunes in an often volatile market.
The “real Pepsi challenge” of the title lay in the efforts of Pepsi’s black salesmen in the 1940s and ’50s to establish both the importance and profitability of the “Negro market” and the reliability and competence of the men who could sell to it. These men faced the gritty, humiliating realities of Jim Crow as they traveled through the South hustling their cola at black churches, social clubs, schools and athletic events. Some of the first African-Americans working in national corporations — who didn’t carry a broom, that is — they became role models and minor celebrities.
With Mack’s backing, Boyd ran remarkable advertising campaigns in 1948, 1949 and 1951 in the black press. Called “Leaders in Their Fields,” the ads featured profiles of African-American professionals like the diplomat Ralph Bunche, the composer Walter Franklin Anderson, the journalist P. Bernard Young Jr. and the hat designer Mildred Blount. Capparell shows how the series, copies of which black schools and universities requested as educational materials, simultaneously pumped significant income into black publications, showcased black business and professional success, and helped cement black loyalty to Pepsi.
Without calling explicit attention to the alliance among black leaders, the black media and black businesses — an alliance that sprang into action when the president of the Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Company toasted Georgia’s segregationist governor in 1950, and helped inspire a Pepsi-supported boycott of Coke — Capparell establishes the importance of their mutual support in the overall struggle against racial discrimination. Just as black sportswriters played a key role as advocates for baseball’s integration, the black press, by promoting black consumers and businesses, served to strengthen itself and increase collective black political power. In 1951, Coke placed its first ads in black papers.
Capparell, an editor at The Wall Street Journal and a co-author of “Shackleton’s Way: Leadership Lessons From the Great Antarctic Explorer,” interviewed six surviving members of the team. Through them she opens a window onto the frequently impressive, culturally conservative (and therefore often deprecated), “striving” lives of the respectable black middle class in the years before integration — men and women without whom the achievements of the civil rights years would have been impossible.
Take the story of the team member Jean Emmons: from DuSable High School on the South Side of Chicago to a steel mill in Gary, Ind.; from a junior college to an M.B.A. at the University of Chicago in 1948. Emmons received no serious business interviews until Pepsi hired him. He later earned a doctorate in education and retired in 1981 after six years as superintendent of public schools in Trenton, N.J.
More journalism than history, more inspiration than analysis, “The Real Pepsi Challenge” nevertheless deepens our appreciation not, as the author would have it, for the platitude “that diversity is good for business and that business should be good for diversity,” but for the persistence and courage of those willing to break barriers and risk the consequences.
Warren Goldstein, who teaches American history at the University of Hartford, is the author, most recently, of “William Sloane Coffin Jr.: A Holy Impatience.” http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/04/books/review/Goldstein.t.html

Deficiency and Difference - M'Bwebe Aja Ishangi

The direct link: http://daghettotymz.com/current/deficiency-difference/deficiency-difference.html?sms_ss=facebook

This is in reflection of Rev. Jeremiah Wright's April 27, 2008 speech at the NAACPs Freedom Fund Dinner] by Deficiency and Difference - M'Bwebe Aja Ishangi.

"Because they (Afrikan people) learn from a subject, not from an object... They have a different way of learning. Those same children who have difficulty reading from an object and who are labeled EMH, DMH and ADD. Those children can say every word from every song on every hip hop radio station... Why? Because they come from a right-brained creative oral culture like the griot's in Afrika who can go for two or three dayz as oral repositories of a people's history... That is a different way of learning. It's not deficient, it is just different."
xxxxxxxxxx— Rev. Jeremiah Wright

Over the last several weeks, white America heard two eloquent perspectives of america from an Afrikan-in-america point of view. The first bein' presidential candidate Barak Obama's March 18, 2008 speech on Race and in response to his affiliation with Rev. Jeremiah Wright, with the second comin' from Rev. Wright himself on Sunday, April 27th as he addressed the nation via the NAACPs Freedom Fund dinner in Detroit.

The theme of Rev. Wright's speech was that Afrikan people are not deficient, we're different. His response was fueled by 'massa'-media's unrelenting attack on him for citing what they (the media) still refuses to credit as wordz from a white politician who made comments condemning America for its role in civil and foreign unrest. And although I'm no christian, muslim nor believer in man-made religion, as I tuned into CNN, I listened with an open mind.

Rev. Wright revealed some serious jewelz that Sunday evening. The difference in learning modalities was a topic that had never been discussed on prime-time tv. Not only did he mention educated research by hedz like Dr. Janice Hale on the distinct scientific differences of the way Afrikan people learn opposed to whites, he touched on it scientifically,

"What Dr. Janice Hale did in the field of education and what Dr. Geneva Smitherman did in the field of linguistics, Dr. Eldon (Katter) did in... the field of music... African music is different from European piano music. It is not deficient, it is different... We were taught a European paradigm as if Europe had the only music that there was in the world. As a matter of fact, if you just say the term, classical music today, most here, use of that term will automatically refer to Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and already cited Mozart and Handel... From grammar school to graduate school, we are taught in four, four time. That the dominant beat is on one and three. Our band directorz, our choir directorz, our orchestra director start us off how? 'And ONE, two, THREE, four. ONE, two, THREE.' Now, that's the European dominant beat. For Afrikan and Afrikan-Americanz, it is not one and three, it is two and four... Listen to black people clap to this song. Glory, glory hallelujah, you are clapping on beats two and four. If you got some white friends, they'll be clapping like this (on one and three). You say they can't clap. Yes, they can. They clap in a different way... Afrikanz have a different meter and Afrikanz have a different tonality. European music is diatonic, seven tones. Do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do... In west Afrika and south Afrika,... it is pentatonic with five tones. Wintley [Phipps] points out that if you want to know black music, just look at the black keys on the piano. Do, re, fa, so, la. Just those five tunes. Those are the only five notes you'll hear..."

An additional jewel was when he said,

"...Here in Michigan, look at and listen to the University of Michigan and Michigan State University bandz at half-time. Their bandz hit the field with excellent European precision... Now go to a Florida A&M and the Grambling State Band. It's different. And you can't put that in no book."

Yo, you had to see him demonstrate this, it's so true... so true!!

A difference does not mean you are deficient. Rev. Wright blessed us with madd jewelz and for it to be televised made me envision that change is upon us. My only problem is that in the year 2008 — nearly 150 yearz since the Emancipation Procrastination (Proclamation) — we're still takin' the "I wanna be down" approach in the fight for liberation, havin' to explain again and again, generation-after-generation, askin' for YT to accept and treat us equally.

Why haven't we realized by now, the likelihood of this happenin' isn't worth continuing to exert energy towardz?! What has delayed us from goin' back to doin' what our immediate Ancestorz did before the Civil Rights era? Why hasn't there been a Black Wall Street since the one that was burned to the ground by jealous whitefolk back in 1921 (the Tulsa Race Riot)? Afrikanz around the globe have been in this state since we substituted self-reliance and self-determination with the burning desire to be accepted by euroepanz, even if it meant bein' less of ourselves naturally (How oxymoronic is it for Afrikanz to be afraid of tanning in the summer sun or wearing blue-colored eye contacts and dyeing your hair blond?!!?).

Since this paradigm began, we've witnessed the continued exchange of what I like to call, "the Great Cultural Sell-off", where we find Afrikanz literally givin' ourselves to the world with the only want in return being equal acceptance — how about ownership/patenting?! This mindset of 'Afrikan-invention-morphed-into-european-control/profit' today feedz off the creation of urban music (from Bebop to Hiphop), culture (now blue jean companies make saggin', low-pocket jeanz like urban youth wear) and language (Newt Gingrich actually said the word, "diss" when talkin' about Rev. Wright disrespectin' Obama on the show, The View!).

If you really look at it from a global/historical perspective, who has alwayz gone against the majority? CAUCASIANZ!! And for those white folks readin' this (and even black folk who still suffer from the 'please-don't-beat-me-massa' syndrome), don't try and flip this into some reverse-racist argument; and no, I'm not speakin' individually, I'm talkin' collectively as in the historical white race in general.

I'll accept that there are some less than savage white folk, and in return, won't dispute there are some wicked blacks (like the Boule'). Herein lies the difference, for every white person who believes they shouldn't be associated to somethin' their immediate ancestorz did, take a look at how you still benefit from their misdeedz. In addition, don't sit here and act like racizm and enslavement no longer exists! Institutionalized slavery is more powerful than ever and it's global! As a member of the white race, you benefit from it simply because you're white. What's more, there aren't enough (if any) white organizationz who denounce their forefatherz. And lets not even mention if they'd raise fundz as a sort of payback (like the 40 Acres and 2 mules we still haven't got!).

In a world full of all kindz of people, white folk still project themselves as the majority — not in number, but intellectually and financially — which is divisive tactic that creates a superior/inferior complex. Now create a system [composing the fieldz of education, entertaiment, economics, labor, law, politics, sex, religion, war and health—called the 9 Areas of People Activity, plus 1 (health) theorized by Drs. Neely Fulller and Francess Cress-Welsing] that magnifies this, and you end up producing people of color with less esteem due to lack of opportunity, and whites with confidence because of privilege. Call it a coincidence if you want, I call it a generational systematic and effective plan!

A plan like this in todayz world is more subliminal than right in your face. A perfect example can be seen simply by turnin' on your television or by flipping through the pages of publicationz (magazines, books, etc.). For every one person who's not white, there's at least 8-10 who are. Go 'hed, flip the channelz/pages and count how many white folks you see versus Afrikan people (or other people of color).

What's more sublime are the roles we see people in. Look at anything that has to do with beauty and entertainment, like the Miss America pageant. Of the 50 contestant's involved, you can count on one finger (yeah, that's right, I said finger and not hand!) how many are Afrikan versus white. Or take a look at how many politicianz or memberz of congress are white versus non-white. Still think it's a coincidence? I could go on, for dayz naming scenario's.

Yes, we are in the majority of some thingz, like sport jocks, but certainly not in the ownership department! But we're not fairly represented as cheerleaderz! Take a look at all the professional sport cheerleading squadz. This is deep because its systematic, or duplicated around the league's trickling down to the college ranks! It isn't by coincidence that the majority of cheerleaderz are white. The decision makerz (who I bet are mainly white) are defining what they want to be perceived as beauty and they actually feel they are doin' justice by sprinkling a token American-Afrikan/West Indian, Spanish or Asian chick to lessen the blatant racist preference; and we, the public are too blinded (and appreciative of inclusion, no matter what level) by their snail-paced (say delayed) effort for ethnic equality.

We're even doin' it to ourselves! Tyra Banks show, America's Next Top Model is the perfect example of self hate. Notice how many Afrikan women start out on the show versus how many actually win! In addition, she constantly berates our sisterz for not walking or posing 'european', not to mention the consistent gay male presence like that maama-mon (gay) 'Miss J'!

When we are on center stage, we are often depicted in a manner they convinced us to accept as "art". Did you see Vogue magazine's April 2008 cover of LeBron James and Gisele Bundchen? If you looked at conceptual artwork of the original 1933 King Kong movie, you'd see a close resemblance... or is this just a coincidence?

YT not only sees anything not white as deficient, it's seen as divisive 'cause it goes against the control of what they want it to be, and they've proven throughout time that they're willin' to do whatever it takes to have thingz in their favor — even if it meanz some of their own will be oppressed! If Fox news will keep this link up, peep what a white priest (father pfleger) defending Rev. Wright and Farrakhan as well as his thoughts on the double-standard white america has comparing how whites who criticize america are seen opposed to Afrikanz-in-america: http://www.foxnews.com/video2/video08.html?videoId=1fd1c0cf-5c80-4d75-996f-bd53b2461ae0&sMPlaylistID .

Remember the ol' sayin', "When in Rome, walk like the Romanz"? Who was the first to say it? I'm willin' to bet they were of european descent! Ask yourself, has the sayin', "When in Afrika, walk like the Afrikanz" ever been honored? Oh, when YT came to Afrika, they did walk like the Afrikanz. In fact, they wound up impersonating our Ancestorz, plagiarizing everything Afrikan and calling it theirz (study the persianz, romanz and greeks to name a few, or read 'Stolen Legacy' by George GM. James).

See, to them, it is a matter of survival. Never in the recorded history of europeanz have they lived in harmony with any race, not even their own! They can't function unless they are in control. And its this egotistical mindset that has prohibited the human race from living together, peacefully.

It may shock you to know that white folks are not the majority. This isn't me just sayin' it, it's true! When you take into account the people's of the world. In fact, research states they are a dying breed. Ask yourselves, who created artificial insemination and In-Vitro fertilization; what race invented cloning?! The even better question is why did they create these?!!? Don't see it, or better yet, don't wanna see it? Let's travel back in history...

HISTORY FOR HISTORY'S SAKE
When the founding pirates, I mean, "fatherz" arrived in North America, it was already populated; it just wasn't by them! Dark-melanated beingz that look just like the dark-skinned hedz on the continent of Afrika were here well before the erroneously called "Indianz" or "Native-Americanz"! [The earliest chiefs of many tribes would've been thought to be Afrikan because they looked like Afrikanz, but can't be called that because they were in North America, not Afrika. Additional proof of an early "Afrikan" presence are the countless ruinz that have "Afrikan" features like the Olmec Headz found in Mexico as well as pyramid structures and underground passages said to be found in the state of Indiana (look up Ancient America magazine). This bringz into question where did the first inhabitants of this planet originate from and that's a whole 'nutha piece that will be addressed at a later date—(hint) look up Pangaea].

The first europeanz in the "New world", were the different one's, not the hedz who were already here! And what did they do? Did they try to adopt and learn the customz of the original inhabitants? Yes and no. It's just like you havin' someone come from another state or country and stay in your house and they bring with them their home habits, not even considerate enough to learn the wayz of your household first before basically "housin'" your house!

This is what YT did then, and what they do now; alwayz have, and likely — if we use history as our measuring stick — will continue to do! Ask yourselves, how is it the United States military have bases nearly all over the world but there are no foreign bases within the United States that are from Iran, Afghanistan, South Korea, the Ukraine, not even Mexico or Canada! Y IZ Dat?! What race decided to split the continents up into territories and borderz, makin' it so you have to have citizenship and passports to enter and leave places on this place we all live on called Earth?! I mean, ain't we all Earthlingz before anything else?!!? Let that jewel marinate for a lil' bit...

Need more examples? Look at chronic disease's sudden rise in China. The culprit? How 'bout all those McDonalds' outlets that sprung up — and I'm not even counting the increase of softdrinks (Coca-Cola, Pepsi, etc. which also usher in the worldz most addictive substance, refined sucrose aka white sugar - watch two Video Articles on White Sugar on DGTv) [SIDEBAR: why is it called 'soft'drinks when the amount of sugar in soda can eat away your teeth?! Another jewel... marinate on that a bit as well...].

Or how 'bout the guerilla warfare tactic of sendin' christian missionaries, who for yearz, have gone (and still go) into Afrika, converting Afrikanz — who created spiritual systemz millenniumz older than christianity — to this faith that was mandated to the world [thanx to Constantine the (not so) Great], that convinces hedz they're born in sin. Ever heard the short parable, "when the christianz came into Afrika, we (Afrikanz) had the land and they had the Bible. They convinced us to close our eyes and pray to their God. When we opened our eyes, they had the land and we had the Bible!" Yes. That's another jewel... take your time with this one!

Not good enough? How about the western hospital and pharmaceutical syndicate that went into this same area and tricked the inhabitants into believing their natural herb-using doctorz were witch doctorz and that they (YT) had better drugz, which didn't cure you, it just masked the pain (which usually brought on additional ailments); all this in efforts to control the mind, body and spirit (belief system) of whom they refer to as 'Third World' people.

Peep the tricknology, picture a witch doctor... now picture a doctor. What are the first images of each that come to mind? The witch doctor is some savage with a bone through his nose dawnin' a necklace full of teeth screamin' in a language you could swear was a cousin of the caveman; whereas the doctor in over 90% of hedz mind is a white man in a clean, pure, "white" coat. Echoing Rev. Wright, "we're not deficient, just different!"

This piece isn't to bash religious believerz. On the contrary, this is to show the genesis of who actually sees difference as deficient versus who's been convinced they're deficient, not different, and because of this, fights to be accepted by someone who hasn't proven capable of even accepting themselves!

The work of the co-conspiratorz of global white supremacy have kept the world blind for some time now. Today, we are witnessing the erosion of that pact, for as they say, nothin' lasts forever. But this device called global white supremacy won't just roll over and die. As the discussion of race, the imbalance of historical perspective and impending future dawnz upon the next generation, these culprits are workin' overtime to hold on to the benefits of their misdeedz as long as possibility will allow it. They are determined to be divisive; with them bein' on top of the food chain with a healthy gap between the next, of course.

The fact is, there is no difference in deficient or divisiveness; they actually go hand-in-hand. When we look at white-folk, we see whenever they're in a situation they're not in control of, or can't comprehend, it makes them feel deficient, so their instinctive plan of retaliation (although retaliation isn't even needed) is divisiveness. See, to them, anything non-white is a threat; as if blending or merging harmoniously with other ethnicities would literally 'whiteout' their existence (sorta like how the color white is fundamentally an inferior color to all the other colorz of the rainbow. Just blend it with any color and white becomes almost absent. Use a dark hue like black or brown, and it's totally engulfed — oh, they've studied this as well! They call it 'Eugenics'). I even dare call it a defense mechanizm. And why would they be so defensive? Because of all the ill deedz they've done to people the world over. They know karma could be right around the corner!

With that theory bein' said, they still refuse to practice humility and continue on with their wayz creating hierarchies, classes, deciding what (who) is of value and what (who) is not; all this, because they cannot handle not bein' in the driverz seat at all tymz. It's not until they are confronted that they show a sliver of shame.

I'll give you a personal example. The very next day after Rev. Wrights speech, I'm gettin' dressed one afternoon after workin' out at a gym in New York City. My attire was business casual, wearing a button-down shirt with brown pants and brown shoes. This older white guy chooses a locker across from mine and beginz to laugh under his breath. I paid him no mind. I guess my ignoring him gave him some courage as he uttered to me laughin', "You know what would be funny?... If you was a lawyer! With your (dred)locks and all; you'd be a rasta lawyer!" Because I wasn't wearing jeanz saggin' past my ass and a backward baseball cap, I was a (corporate) threat to him.

He's laughin' waitin' for me to laugh with him. Now, in any other situation, I'd go Dave Chappelle on his ass, but I'd be seen as the one in the wrong. In addition, he probably didn't even realize there was nothin' funny about what he just said. I paused, thinking before I spoke... turned around, lookin' him square in the eyes and replied, "you shouldn't be so afraid; but then again, I understand why you would be..." His smile turned to a look of embarrassment, as his eyes searched for his jaw that was on the ground. He mumbled under his breath, "I guess that wasn't so funny. I'm glad you said that," as if he wanted me to see his acknowledged foolishness. Trust, I wanted to say (and do) more! But what I said was enough to change his vybe. And it made me think of Rev. Wright's speech.

Am I sympathetic to white folks 'cause they can't handle hedz that are 'different'? At tymz, on an individualistic level like this encounter, yes; but when I look at this and see this is a microcozm of a macrocozmic and historical way of thinking white folk have had for everyone non-white, the answer is no, not at all...

Maybe now we can realize there's the urgent need to change our focus from acceptance to defining ourselves, first and be understood by otherz, second; for the other way around continues to empower the very oppressor we're tryin' to defeat.
