Black-majority nations in the world - an excerpt from Chapter 2 of FUTURENOMICS - Kedi Adu

(Photo: American Spoken Word Artist and Social & Cultural Revolutionary Queen Sheeba sporting attire that strongly affirms that she is a BLACK person, or a person of African descent.)

Let's build a tremendous future together. Here is an excerpt from Chapter 2 of FUTURENOMICS: The Grass is Greener on Both Sides of the Border:

Black-Majority Nations Outside of Africa

There are today more than 70 Black-majority nations in the world, more than 20 of these groupings outside of Africa. This number looms even larger as we consider that many Pacific Islander nations are majority-populated by Melanesians and Papuans, both of whom are of predominantly African genetic heritage, their genetic roots being mixed with Asian and European voyagers in recent centuries. Culturally, many Pacific Islanders have retained significant resemblance to root African social patterns.

(photo: Native Hawaiians who were instrumental in popularizing the sport of surfing.
http://www.surfingforlife.com/history2.html)

Twenty western hemisphere nations, several of them territorial protectorates of the U.K, U.S. and Netherlands, have Black-majority populations ranging from as high as Haiti's 95% to a majority Black/mixed Brazil with 50.7%. Toward our aim of creating robust transnational relationships with national populations whose cultural heritage most closely matches our own, creating deeper economic ties with these nations would be a bold and productive strategic move.

These twenty western hemispheric nations with Black-majority populations are:
• Anguilla - 85.3%
• Antigua & Barbuda - 87.3%
• Bahamas - 90.6%
• Barbados - 92.4%
• Bermuda - 53.8%
• Brazil - 50.7% Mulatto (mixed black/white) and Black
• British Virgin Islands - 76.3%
• Cayman Islands - 60% (includes creole mixed)
• Curacao – “Afro-Caribbean majority”
• Dominica - 86.6%
• Grenada - 82.4%
• Haiti - 95%
• Jamaica - 92.1%
• Montserrat - 88.4%
• St. Kitts & Nevis - 92.7%
• Saint Lucia - 85.3%
• Saint Marten - Majority Creole (mixed black/white) and Black
• Saint Vincent and the Grenadines - 66%
• Turks and Caicos Islands - 87.6%
• Virgin Islands (US) - 76%

On the African continent there are five countries identified as Arab Maghreb (Includes Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Tunisia), four of which are of “Berber” majority populations; considered a mix of predominantly Arabs, Blacks and Mediterranean. Of these Maghreb nations only one, Mauritania has a 70% black majority. Egypt, which is not listed as a Maghreb partner, has a dominant population that does not consider themselves “black Africans,” referring to themselves simply as “Egyptian.” The genetic mix of modern Egypt includes an ancient blend of Arab, Mediterranean, Black African and western Asia.

There is a large population dispersed across the Pacific Ocean region inhabiting regions of island groupings called Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia. From visual as well as genetic evidence of their ethnicity, we can determine that a number of these Pacific Islanders are essentially African with ancient origins dating back 50,000 years and quite likely much earlier.

Christmas onto your credit card might be the Anti-Christ - Seko Varner

To celebrate Christmas, many believers did something the Bible teaches it's readers not to do...... Go into debt. Putting Christmas onto your credit card might be the Anti-Christ.

!!! Happy New Year !!!

I decided to wait to make this post until after the Holy-Day & Holiday season.Just a few weeks ago many placed themselves into debt to celebrate Christmas and gift giving. Credit cards and the ease of borrowing has made it easy for 'Christians' to use credit in a manner which is fundamentally obverse to the teachings of the Bible..... I've decided to call 'debt' the 'Anti-Christ'. Plainly put, the Bible and other Holy books of guidance direct their followers to avoid debt. Putting Christmas onto your credit card could be construed as doing the exact opposite of the holy teachings. Putting Christmas onto your credit card might be the Anti-Christ.

Let that marinate for about 11 months........I'll join you in that consideration. Why not take a look at the below Michelle Singletary video or visit Dave Ramsey's site while marinating.

If you ain't a gardener, you ain't gangsta - Ron Finley

“We gotta flip the script on what a gangsta is — if you ain't a gardener, you ain't gangsta.” - Ron Finley

Gardening is GANGSTA ! Artist and designer Ron Finley couldn’t help but notice what was going on in his backyard. “South Central Los Angeles,” he quips, “home of the drive-thru and the drive-by.” And it's the drive-thru fast-food stands that contribute more to the area’s poor health and high mortality rate, with one in two kids contracting a curable disease like Type 2 diabetes.

Finley’s vision for a healthy, accessible “food forest” started with the curbside veggie garden he planted in the strip of dirt in front of his own house. When the city tried to shut it down, Finley’s fight gave voice to a larger movement that provides nourishment, empowerment, education -- and healthy, hopeful futures -- one urban garden at a time.

“South Central Los Angeles [is the] home of the drive-thru and the drive-by. Funny thing is, the drive-thrus are killing more people than the drive-bys.” - Ron Finley

Tom Cruise was Black (The Original “Top Guns” Were Black Fighter Pilots) - Bozeman Development Group

As we pull back the curtains on the hidden history of African American accomplishments, I’d like to mention a couple of facts that dispel the fictional allegations that plagued African American military personnel for too long.  The allegation was that they were incompetent.
In 1897, a surprising proposal was initiated in the higher echelons of the U.S. Army. It was proposed, on numerous occasions, that the cadets of West Point Military Academy, the elite future leaders of the U.S. military, should learn their riding skills and mounted battle tactics from the soldiers who were considered the best fighting horsemen in the Army. Although the proposals were initially denied, finally, on March 23, 1907, one-hundred African American non-commissioned officers were assigned as a special detachment from the all-Black 9th Cavalry (Buffalo Soldiers) to provide riding instruction, mounted drill and tactics at West Point Military Academy. For the next 40-years the West Point cadets received their cavalry training from African Americans, the best fighting horsemen U.S. Army, from 1907 until 1947.
In 1986, millions of moviegoers were thrilled by the drama, acrobatics and intense battle scenes of the movie Top Gun starring Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer. Top Gun was a special program and competitive event for the best fighter pilots in the U.S. Navy. Following the release of that movie, lots of boys across the country dreamed of being a Top Gun fighter pilot.
What was not revealed in that film was that the Top Gun program actually originated in the U.S. Air Force and that the original Top Gun pilots were Black men from the famous Tuskegee Airmen, 332nd Fighter Squadron.
The military’s first “Top Gun” gunnery meet originated in 1949 and was established by United States Air Force. At this point, the Air Force was only two years old. It had previously been the U.S. Army Air Corps before Congress determined that it should be a separate organization from the Army. What is also virtually unknown is that a team of Tuskegee Airmen, Captain Alva Temple, 1st Lieutenant Harry Stewart, 1st Lieutenant James H Harvey III and alternate pilot Halbert Alexander competed in the event with their P-47N Thunderbolts. They not only competed, they went on to win the USAF very “First Top Gun” Weapons Meet (also known as “William Tell” and “Gunsmoke”) in May of 1949. The event was held at the Las Vegas Air Force Base, which later became Nellis AFB.
As it has happened too often in American history, their triumph was not publically acknowledged. Actually, the trophy for which they qualified was “lost” for many years and was finally unearthed after years of searching by renown historical researcher, Zellie Rainey Orr, nearly 50 years later. The team of the 332nd Fighter Squadron was officially acknowledged as the winners of that 1949 competition and finally awarded their trophy by the U.S. Air Force in 1995.
It’s not surprising that their victory was swept under the rug for a half-century. News like that would have been too much of a psychological shakeup for the white population at that time. Their view of the “Negro” was so skewed that they wouldn’t have been able to handle it. For example, there were several so-called studies done in the military to determine the suitability of allowing African Americans into the military.
According to the studies by the Army War College, Negro Soldiers were “Child Like”, “Careless”, “Shiftless”, “Irresponsible”, “Secretive”, “Superstitious”, “Unmoral and Untruthful” and more than likely to be guilty of “Moral turpitude”. The Negro Soldier was also branded as “A Comic”, “Emotionally Unstable”, “Musically Inclined With Good Rhythm” and “If Fed, Loyal and Compliant”.
On his website (http://www.tuskegeetopgun-jharvey.com/attitude.php), Lt. Col James H. Harvey III, who was one of the pilots on the winning Top Gun team, shares his experiences and the motivation behind the attitude of the Tuskegee Airmen. He states,
“Since every White Commander had a copy of this report this is how he perceived us. Plus, he had a few unfounded ideas of his own. Keep what I just said in mind. During the early forties the “wash out or failure rate” for White Aviation Cadets going through Flight Training was running at 63%. The “wash-out or failure rate” for the first Cadet class at Tuskegee was 40%. They said, ‘There is something wrong with this equation’, so they made sure the wash-out rate at Tuskegee was 70% or higher. We were washed out for anything, it did not have anything to do with our flying. Our Flight Training was different than the White Cadets. Everything we did had to be perfect. So when we graduated, we were better than our Instructors. Colonel Noel Parrish, our Commander at Tuskegee Army Air Field would go to the White Flying School at Montgomery, Alabama and tell the Commander there that, “We wash out better pilots at Tuskegee than you graduate here at Montgomery”, which was true. Colonel Parrish was a White Military man from Kentucky, but he was behind this program at Tuskegee 100%. This “Tuskegee Experiment” or “Tuskegee Experience” as it was called, was designed to fail. Yes, the whole program was designed to fail. We were out to prove them wrong. We were not just learning to fly for ourselves, we were out to prove that we, as a Race of People can do anything they can do, but only do it ‘Better’.”
When the United States Air Force held it’s “First Ever” Weapons Meet (also known as William Tell) in May 1949, the members of the 332nd Fighter Group (Tuskegee Airmen) organized a team for the competition. The primary members of the team were, Captain Alva Temple, 1st Lieutenant James H Harvey III, 1st Lieutenant Harry Stewart and alternate pilot 1st Lieutenant Halbert Alexander. They met with their commanding officer, Colonel Benjamin Davis, prior to their departure from Lockbourne Air Force Base for the Las Vegas event. His final comment to the team was, “If you don’t Win, Don’t come back” (tongue in cheek). That was their incentive to win the Meet and they came back with the win, even though it would take 50-years for the world to hear about it.

The absolute weight doesn't matter

Republished from 2008
From BIB contributor John Jessup:

A  lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked, "How heavy is this glass of water? "Answers called out ranged from 8oz. to 20oz.The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it.. "If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance.""In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes. " He continued, "And that's the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on. "As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden. " "So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work/life down. Don't carry it home. You can pick it up tomorrow.""Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment if you can. Relax; pick them up later after you've rested. Life is short. Enjoy! "And then he shared some ways of dealing with the burdens of life:

01* Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.
02* Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.
03* Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.
04* Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker.
05* If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
06* If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
07* It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
08* Never buy a car you can't push.
09* Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.
10* Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.
11* Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late..
12* The second mouse gets the cheese.
13* When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
14 * Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.
15* You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.
16* Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.
17* We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are prettyand some are dull. Somehave weird
names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.
18* A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Sunday Schooled - This one's for you

11/2/2012.....Here we are four years later. Mum looked at me today and said "I'm strong enough to go to the election polls myself now. I'll be casting my vote this time. You won't have to vote for me. You can vote for Mitt Romney if you want this year. I don't see why you would want to." Earlier this week I was barraged by folks wanting to know what my political plans were. When someone asked me "Are you better off now than you were four years ago ?" I had to admit that I was better. My improved existence isn't due to any political action..........Thankfully..........Time does indeed heal wounds...... Ashee, Amen.

This one's for you

Photos from David Schwartz
11/4/2008 - Mama's catching it right about now. Pops is having health difficulties, Mama-Granny is having health problems, my cousin has acted in a manner that's disrespectful and will need to keep a distance from me , & now she's in the hospital.

A week ago she shared in a story how surreal it is to be born in the 1940's in the United States and to face against racial and gender discrimination and to quietly yet deeply fear raising two Black boys. She had seen America spit out and chew Black boys even in the best of circumstances. She wasn't allowed to enter certain restaurants, establishments, and walks of life due to her race and gender as she was growing up. She saw men and women scarred by America while saying the Pledge of Allegiance. As she pledged allegiance to a country who violated and abused her fellow Americans of African and Indian descent she placed her faith on the cross of Christ. She stood up for and held onto love towards men who walked away from responsibility and fought the devils in alcohol. drugs, crime, and perversion.

'Sunday Schooled' is a collection of blog posts from Seko Varner's former blogs. This post was dated 11/04/2008 while Seko's father, Rev. Dr. Samuel Varner was alive.

Mom marched with Dr. King, listened to Malcolm, and later lit seven cultural candles after celebrating the birthday celebration of her savior. Mom worked and received lower paychecks and was shut-out of some businesses due to her womanhood. And now she had a chance to vote for a Barak Obama.

This is something that she spoke into me and my brother as we were lil'. "You could even be the President of the United States of America." While she was attempting to bolster her children with a wealth of the hope that embraces the "American dream "she truly didn't believe that it could happen for one of America's African children. My parents kept me in love with our African and Indian roots as much as they immersed us into almost all-white environments. She put up with polite smiles and back-stabbing church and professional peers who spoke of love and equality and practiced distance......And now she had a chance to vote for a Barak Obama.

Mom spoke of feeling like she was dreaming when she graduated from school and "they" made "them" all get into a bus to vote. She fearfully yet fearlessly got in the line expecting the usual police batons, citizen threats, or the whispered about bombs and was able to cast her vote for John F. Kennedy. She couldn't believe that she was able to do what so many had died trying to do. She couldn't believe that she was safe in participating in American society after being an American negro......And now she had a chance to vote for a Barak Obama.

We sat and she marveled while watching videos on the Internet involving people of all backgrounds demonstrate their support of Barack Obama in song, poetry, and speech. She marveled as one video showed bridges across the world with people holding signs endorsing Obama. Here I sat; her privileged Afro-revolutionary-thinking, Black-Republican-acting, Broke yet blessed elitist behaving, Suburban-raised yet hood-loving, Conservative-radio addicted son. She and others bled and suffered for me to be able to believe what I believe. As she marveled I marveled. She has seen America become closer to what America claimed it was. As southern rapper Young Jeezy says to Barack Obama in one his songs "Win, loose, or draw......You have changed the world for us." This is surreal to her.

Yesterday Barak Obama's grandmother died (11/03/2008 Roman Calendar) . Two days ago Mum was placed into the hospital fighting against pneumonia. She won't get a chance to vote and she's worried that her conservative son's vote may be one of the votes that defeats her realized dream in Obama's candidacy.

I awoke at 3:00 AM. I arrived at the polling place at 4:35 AM. The polls opened up at 6:00 AM. I cast my vote at 6:05 AM. My wifey arrived at 5:30 AM and cast her vote at 7:30 AM. I'll pick-up my Daddy around 10:00 AM to take him to the polls. This is surreal for him as well. Looking at the line behind me this morning was surreal. I shed a tear for Mum as I approached the voting booth. This is something she wasn't able to do today after praying, working, and bleeding for the opportunity. Mum, this one's for you.

Coon Affiliated: 10 Rap Songs That Set Blacks Back

By C. Vernon Coleman II October 15, 2012 - Originally at Hip-Hop Wired:
http://hiphopwired.com/2012/10/15/coon-affiliated-10-rap-songs-that-set-african-americans-back-as-a-race/

The truth is, rap music has its good, bad and ugly. Good being those feel great tunes with a positive message and substance. Bad being music that may not appeal to the masses but is entertaining in its own right. And ugly being that ish that you wish never made it outside of the delusional rapper who made its thought process. Especially if you are a self respecting African-American. We are not talking about the run of the mill Southern dance track or exorbitant East Coast party record. We are talking about the music that is so coonish that it leaves people wondering if the rapper who made it has ever heard of the Civil Rights movement, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, minstrel shows, slavery or at least seen 30 minutes of Roots. [Editor's Note: Bamboozled, too.] Hide your kids, hide your white boss/co-workers. Here are 10 songs - that made it to the mainstream - that most black folks wish other condescending races never knew existed…
10)  “MyBabyDaddy” – B-Rock and The Biz
This song probably has the sad significance of cementing the phrase “baby daddy” into the mainstream vernacular. Besides letting the world know that black people can't formulate a proper sentence, the video also showed that we like to deny fathering kids and dance around doing jigs while doing it.

09)  “Your Momma's On Crack Rock” – The Dogs
Okay, okay, we know we added this song into our list of Anti Drug PSAs, but that was on some glass half full ish. On some glass half empty ish, this is some of the saddest ish in Hip-Hop history. Just a little reminder to let the world know that all Black women are zombied out on that glass Richard, and that their crack baby children know about it.

08)   “Chickenhead” – Project Pat ft. Three 6 Mafia & La Chat The song's title has the word “chicken” in it, so yeah, it's already starting off on a bad note. Then raunchy the lyrics and even raunchier video go hard to keep up the stereotype that black women are money hungry unfit mothers and young black males are self absorbed misfits.

07)   “Baby Mama” – Three 6 Mafia ft. La Chat Continuing in the “I fathered children and now don't want to take care of them,” theme, Three 6 helps perpetuate the stereotype that for Blacks having children is nothing more than a ritual in busting a nut and collecting a check.

06)  "First Of the Month” - Bone Thugz N Harmony We can't front. This song is a classic. One might even let his or her white co-worker listen to it telling them how it was their jam coming up. That is, if you want said co-worker to think all Black people sit around doing nothing all month and collect a welfare check on the 1st (provided by their tax dollars) and use it to go buy crack, kush and beer.

05)  "Because I Got High” – Afroman Surely, this song had a lot of brothers with brown lips getting turned down for employment in the early 2000's. A nicca wit a Dr J afro named Afroman talking about nothing but getting high, with chickens, 40 ounces and scantily dressed women dancing around in the video. Who hired this nicca to make this song, the K-lan ?

04)  "Chicken Noodle Soup” – DJ Webstar and Young B Again, having the word chicken in your title is never a good look. But when you add a dance that looks eerily similar to the jigs performed at minstrel shows, you have a recipe for complete coonery

03)   "Pants Hang Low” – Plies We get it. This was supposed to be the rally cry against the proposed “No Sagging” law that would probably cause racial profiling in the Black community. But, bruh bruh, no. You and all the rest of these young punks, pull your fuxing pants up. Stop making Black folks look like got damb fools.

02)   "That Baby Don't Look Like Me” – Shawty Put ft. Lil Jon & Too Short
If you haven't already gotten it yet, the themes here too often are Black men give no f-cks about their kids. And neither do Black women, all they want is a check. Thanks, Shawty Put for reinforcing this false mind set.

01)   "Get Smoked” – Lil Mouse
What kind of third world azz ish is this?!? We elected a Black President four years ago, and a kid who just grew his first pubic hair is rapping about getting head and killing people. And some adult actually sponsored this. We got a long way to go, people."

00) "Chain Hang Low” – Jibbs (BONUS MENTION) This is what happens when you don't have any elders in your circle. The song that the St. Louis rapper swiped the “CHL” melody from is actually a minstrel show mainstay entitled “Zip Coon” or “Turkey In The Straw,” depending on the lyrics. It was only later changed to the children's song “Ears Hang Low.

What Black Parents Must Do This Summer - Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu

What Black Parents Must Do This Summer - Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu
http://africanamericanimages.com/AAI/Black%20Parents%20Must%20Do.htm

There is a 3 year gap between Black and White students. Many people love to believe it’s due to income, fatherlessness, educational attainment of the parent and lack of parental involvement. I believe that a major reason for the gap is that we continue to close school for the summer - as if we were an agrarian economy. And I doubt that many Black youth will be farming this summer. If you multiply 3 months by 12 years you will see the 3 year gap. It is my opinion that Black youth would have fewer academic challenges if their schools remained open during the summer and/or their parents kept them academically engaged.
Middle-income parents who value education enroll their children in some type of academic experience during the summer. They also visit libraries, museums , zoos and colleges. Other parents allow their children to sleep longer, play more video games, watch more television and play basketball until they can’t see the hoop. These students will have to review the same work they had mastered in May, when the school year begins in September.

Black parents cannot allow their children to lose 3 months every year. Black parents should not say they cannot afford to take their child to the library. It’s free! Most museums have discounted days. A male friend of mine shared his experience with me when he took his family to the museum. He wondered why so many people were staring at him. His wife and children had to tell him he was the only Black man in the building! I am appealing to every father to take his children to the library this summer, and to include a visit to the museum, and the zoo. And I am appealing to every mother to make other arrangements, if the father cannot or will not take the children.

We need for every parent to make sure that their child reads at least one book per week and to write a book report. I am reminded of the formula Sonya Carson used to develop Ben Carson to become the best pediatric neurosurgeon. This low-income single parent, with a third grade education, had enough sense to tell her sons to turn off the television, read a book and write a report that her sister would grade!
I have a theory. I believe that I can go into your house and within 5 minutes tell you the type of student who lives there and predict his/her future. I believe that the items needed in the home of engineers, doctors, lawyers, accountants etc., are very different from the ballplayers, rappers, and criminals. I am very concerned that when I visit a house that has more CDs and downloads than books. My company African American Images has designed a special collection of books for boys. The specific set that I am referencing is titled, Best Books for Boys. We also have one for parents and teachers. We have found the sets to be very resourceful since research indicates that one of the major reasons why boys dislike reading is because of the content.

Let’s work together to close the gap. I look forward to your children’s teacher asking them how they spent their summer,……and your children proudly answering by saying that they went to the library, museum, zoo, colleges and other great educational institutions

Enjoy your summer!
